VeeU Design: Blat Crawler
The Veeu Design Blat Crawler is a handcrafted Italian topwater lure developed to deliver reliable performance in challenging and heavily pressured fishing conditions. Originally prototyped in 2018, the design has been extensively tested and refined through years of practical fishing.
Inspired by natural surface prey, the Blat Crawler features a highly detailed insect-inspired design combined with a lightweight solid resin body and aerodynamic profile. Its folding Lexan wings sit close to the body during the cast, helping the lure achieve impressive casting distance while maintaining a compact flight profile.
Once it reaches the water, the V-shaped belly and instantly deploying wings create a distinctive swimming action and sound. The lure is designed to produce surface disturbance and vibration that can attract predatory fish from a distance, including fish that may be less active or more cautious.
The Blat Crawler is also designed with versatility in mind. The standard Lexan wings are positioned at 45° for a balanced action suitable for a slow retrieve, while an additional set of aluminium tuning wings is included. These can be adjusted up to 90° to alter the lure's movement and sound to suit different conditions and fishing preferences.
Its realistic profile is based around the types of prey commonly encountered on the surface, including insects, frogs, rodents and small birds. This gives the lure a natural presentation while also allowing anglers to adapt it to different environments and target species.
Each Blat Crawler is 100% made in Italy and individually handcrafted by Luca Ruggeri, with premium BKK components selected for reliable hook-up performance. As an entirely artisanal product, each lure may feature subtle variations in colour, pattern and finish, making every piece unique.
The Blat Crawler combines thoughtful design, long-distance casting ability, customisable action and traditional Italian craftsmanship into a specialised topwater lure for anglers looking for something a little different.
